Overview

Scan-Z provides barcode scanning and product lookup services to merchants who use Shopify to power their stores. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and shared when you install or use the Scan-Z app in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

Information we collect

When you install Scan-Z, we collect:

  • Your Shopify store domain (e.g. yourstore.myshopify.com)
  • Your Shopify access token (used to create products in your store on your behalf)
  • Subscription status and billing information (managed through Shopify Billing)
  • Usage data — the number of barcode lookups performed per billing cycle

We do not collect personal information about your customers. We only access the store-level data necessary to provide the app's functionality.

How we use your information

  • To authenticate your Shopify session and operate the app
  • To create products in your Shopify store when you submit a scan
  • To enforce plan limits (scan counts per billing cycle)
  • To send service-related notifications (install confirmation, billing alerts)

Third-party services

Scan-Z uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • UPCItemDB — We send UPC codes to UPCItemDB to retrieve product data. No personal information is transmitted.
  • MongoDB Atlas — We store your store session and subscription data in a MongoDB Atlas database hosted on AWS.
  • Heroku — Our application server is hosted on Heroku (Salesforce). Your data is processed within Heroku's infrastructure.

Data retention

We retain your store data for as long as your app subscription is active. When you uninstall Scan-Z, your store record and session data are deleted from our database within 48 hours.

GDPR

If you are a merchant operating in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. To submit a data request, contact us through the Shopify App Store listing. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
